Hello people…Here’s what the Techies are up to this weekend.
The Silicon Mountain Community announces the first Silicon Mountain Conference to be
held at Eta Palace Hotel, Buea Cameroon on Saturday the 20th of June 2015, from 5pm
to 8pm.
Silicon Mountain is heart of technology and innovation in Cameroon.. located in the
Buea Limbe area of the south west region of Cameroon.
The attendees of the conference will mainly comprise the persons who directly influence
the tech startup community. These are the startups and their employees, the Computer
Engineering faculties in local universities and other Information Technology vocational
training institutions (their staff and students), technology incubators and coworking
spaces and key partners and customers that use and trust products built by local
startups.
The goal of the conference is to get the whole community on the same page in our
story, our present status and define the journey ahead. It will also be an opportunity to
celebrate our success in 2014’s objective of building ‘A Community that Codes’; whose
success was made evident with our jump from 3 successful candidates in 2014 to 10 in
the 2015 Google Summer of Code. In general, Cameroon had 12 successful
candidates, 10 of whom were from Buea, and from Africa, the next country close to
Cameroon’s figures was Egypt with 5 successful candidates.
The theme of the conference is ‘Let’s Build Products’. This is taking s step further from
improving code quality, to putting the codes together and produce high quality products.
We believe that in our efforts to transform our community form a startup techosystem to
a high quality startup techosystem, we have to set clear short term goals and
experiment on them like we will do with our startups.
The conference will be divided into 3 main parts:
– Keynote speeches
– Presentation of projects in the community focused on improving product
development skills
– A Question and Answer session, during which any member in the community can
ask any other member or organization a question with the help of an app built by
to Community hackathons on the 6th and 13th of June 2015.
The Buea area (Silicon Mountain) is the most attractive to tech startups in Cameroon.
With conferences like this, we believe we can be the most attractive in Africa because in
the Silicon Mountain, we do real things.
If you are in Buea, be sure to check out the Techies. They are part of Why I Love Buea.
