Hello people it is Friday…Yayyyyy!
The Camer internet o sphere and fashion world has been buzzing with news about Oscar winner, Lupita Nyong’o wearing 2 Kibonen NY designs (in 5 days) by one of our very own Camer designers, Kibonen Nfi.
This is definitely a peak in the rollercoaster journey of Kibs (as we call her) and her fashion label.
Kibonen’s fashion journey started as part of the duo of Kirette Couture that pioneered contemporary Toghu (traditional attire of the North West region) designs.
Kibonen’s journey in the last year has been an interesting one. Being featured on the popular website/page “Humans of New York” in November 2015 was a peak.
In one of the posts she expressed her disappointment about the fact that a celebrity did not wear her designs
The traffic following this feature resulted in her website crashing. When opportunity meets preparation there are bound to be amazing results..Her website was sorted and traction was on..Fast forward a few months later she started raising funds for her “Made in Camer” production facility.
Thumbs up Kibs for setting up “Made in Camer” in Bamenda. The production facility and shop is a great way to give back to the community…Capacity building in key in any sustainable development initiative.
As we say in pidgin…”Man di do good thing then spoil am with e mop”….Kibonen after a press conference about Made in Camer expressed her disappointment with journalists in Bamenda in a video which was shared all over social media…Camers like controversy and a lot of people didn’t it funny…It had such back lash and was a “faux pas” in my opinion especially since something very positive had just happened!
Kibonen has been busy networking and attending events like the Essence festival, Sourcing @Coterie, hosting pop up events. A peak in her fashion journey happened in the last week when Lupita wore a print ensemble to the Ellen DeGeneres show and blue dress to Good Morning America on her media tour for Disney’s new movie “Queen of Katwe”.
