Nigeria celebrated it’s Independence Day on October 1st 2016..I am currently in Lagos so I was in my #NigeriaAt56 mood! One of the highlights of the day was pictures of cakes by the Nigerian Cake Art Collaborating showcasing Nigeria in different ways.

The Nigerian Cake Art Collaboration is a virtual exhibition of creative sugar works to celebrate Nigerian Independence Day by the finest cake artists in Nigeria and in the wider Diaspora. The showcase was intended to show aspects of Nigerian culture to the world in the form of amazing and educational sugar and cake art. The aim of the collaboration is to inspire Nigerian cake artists to pursue excellence in their craft, to celebrate Nigeria as a country and appreciate everything we have and also to showcase the talents of Nigerian cake artists to the world and make them more visible in the global cake industry.
The collaboration was hosted and organised by Maria Makanjuola, the founder of the first online baking and cake decorating school targeted at African cake decorating enthusiasts, Sweet Cake TV (www.sweetcaketv.com).
The cake artists selected to be part of the collaboration included: Ezinne Okonkwo of Dewdrops Catering Services, Ini Nsek Erivwo of Erivana Cakes, Ayodeji Ajibade of Enchantin Cakes & Decor, Doris Orumwese of Dorisa Cakes and Rentals, Terry Adido of Grated Nutmeg, Eso Effiong Eso of Big Exude N Cakes, Siku Adewuyi of cake-n-candy, Lizzy Okon of Lizzie’s Cakes n Crafts, Naomi Samson Ayuba of Naosam Delightful Cakes and Events, Ngozi Obi-Chukwuma of Heles Cake and Events, Oladimeji Olabimpe of Blooming Bud Concept, Ifeoma Ada Ezechukwu of Kitchen Pastries, Itohan Asibor of Bluberrycakes, Efua Olumide of Exotique Cakes, Emma Assam Nkwam of Morhouse Cakes, Nnena Nkwocha of Ice and Satin Confectionery, and Ajibola Onafowokan of Arality World.
All the cake artists who were invited to participate in the collaboration were chosen because of their persistent pursuit of excellence that is evident in their work and a large proportion of the cake artists are actually sugarcraft teachers, whether teaching through live attended classes or via online blogs or videos. It truly was a collaboration of the masters of sugarcraft.
Each artist picked a category about Nigeria to explore from the following: art, folktales, historical kingdoms, food, fashion, spirituality, nature and wildlife, music and architectural landmarks.
